Letter to Vinay

 Dear vinay,

Hope you are fine, I am fine too. I write this letter to reminisce about our days in L&T, house 287.

Where do I start? The best scene that comes to my mind whenever I talk about is the one from Kabir Singh,

Vinay .... Pratap ..... Singh, topper of the batch, topper of the class, best employee of the company,

But in Stress management, ZERO.

-- Show some bloody respect to the champion.

The description fits perfectly with a scene from Kabir Singh. I consider you a close friend and even a brother. Thinking about you brings a smile to my face and floods me with memories. Despite being flat mates for four years, we were strangers for almost two. However, as other flat mates vacated, we got the chance to talk, and our friendship blossomed. It's funny how the pandemic made our friendship possible.

I appreciate being able to be myself around you without fear of judgement. You even encouraged my singing, despite not always liking it. I sense a poet hiding in your heart, waiting to be set free. Also, listen to your conscience and take breaks when necessary

Remember when we almost crashed the car on the way to pay the electricity bill? I can still hear the background music and see the original Ghaziabadi Vinay at the counter. Although your anger is not uncommon, I won't bring up the Ooty incident, poor Sujeet. I must admit that Biyani and I talked about it behind your back, but we never dared to bring it up to you. And the time you and Archit got angry just from exchanging heated looks, "AAJA...AAJA" still rings in my ears.

I'm amazed by how hardworking you are, even pulling off a 72-hour workday in just 24 hours. You've taught me to be helpful, but you struggle with saying "no." I would love to give you "The Art of Saying No" if you would tell me your real date of birth.

We have shared many good memories, although most of them involved not being sober. The bonfire on the balcony, the time you claimed to be sober, and the push-up challenge are just a few. You have never been a disturbance, and we have never had any distrust between us. You even took care of me when I was inebriated.

We've enjoyed many rides to Agra and Jaipur, but I was terrified when you pulled the clutch downhill on our way back from Nehargarh. During the pandemic, we drank a lot and ate plenty of food, but your favorite was always Biriyani blues. You were the savior of all the street vendors, and they will miss you dearly.

I must confess that I talked about you behind your back with Ajay, Prashant, and Bhaiyya, but it was always for your benefit. You were one of the few people at work that I could rely on to get the tricky parts done. You were always supportive when I was low.

I'm sorry for all that you've been through lately. Please take care of yourself and your parents. I miss you, my friend.

The fear to freedom in Delhi

Is this a letter, an article or a dip into the feeling of my heart? I dont know and i cant say for sure. I know i would share this for sure, so lets call it a letter.

Just after my college I was lucky enough to be placed in L&T, the company will always have a special place in my heart and I will always get to enjoy the pride of being an L&Tite. Just like how my mother had given me a life to live and lead, L&T has given me a career to work on. It was 3rd july, I joined L&T in Chennai, Later posted to Faridabad, Delhi NCR EDRC design centre. I was very happy and curious to know the nature of my work.I was a rather shy guy, infact i still am. But thats untill i know you for some time. I am an introvert, I keep my circle small and things to myself, thanks to my experiences in College. there were not many guys whom i used to trust.
I was alone in Chennai, I knew Hindi well enough to roam north but Tamil was alien to me. I remember writing the joining story but never published it, and now i forgot where i wrote it. i was too shy to talk to people, tol shy to even say hi and hello. I saw other joinees were mingling with each other at the Novotel hotel where we stayed for a brief period of time.
I met my friend Ajay there, it was rather a funny incident. I was too afraid to be left off and asked him to call me too, when the bus leaves, he still remembers my innocent face and the way i asked. "who recruited kids" he thought to himself. not his mistake, i was like that then, thanks to my broken self esteem whatsoever be the reason. Later I went to some training where i made some more people but just like my old friends, they too were hurting, i was on the verge of loosing faith in good friends, until one day finally all the temporary people having vacated from my life, I started opening myself to new ones and some permanent ones.

I became close with Ajay, Prashant, Vinay, Rohit and Monark, they became close to me in my four years of stay in Delhi. I developed love for bikes, we went on many bike trips and I started to sing, which I do only when I am happy on the Inside. i went on many adventurous bike rides with them and enjoyed my fullest. The office was hectic but entertaining at the same time. The politics were engaging, The back bitching was fun and the memories of me going into rage are funnier. These new memories filled a new hope in me. If not for them, I would have been a different person all together.
Like I would not have taken a bold step to shift to Bangalore. I would not stop living in past, holding on to metaphysical feelings.
I tried new things and it was good for me. At last I became happy and thats what matters the most.
We went to many tours and trips and developed a liking for travelling and exploring. I have always been a traveller my whole life, i just got to know that I am when i am with them.

I can not pinpoint why and when I started liking my friends, but when I feel I miss them, I know how good of friends i have and how much they have touched my life.

I was in a sinking ship and the SOS call was not reching my ears, I was adamant not to vacate taking pride on being captain of my sinking ship, I never called them, but they rescued me and showed me there is still a candle of hope burning in the stormy winds, there is still another day to live and lead.

I often ponder on whys' and whens' of my affection but the best part is, had there been one, my friendship wouldn't be so special.

Miss you guys

Hope to meet you once again.

Lansdowne - A retreat in hills

You never climb the same mountain twice, not even in memory. Memory rebuilds the mountain, changes the weather, retells the jokes, remakes all the moves.” - Lito Tejada-Flores

Lansdowne - A retreat in hills

Another Saturday, was it 27th of July 2019? ... I don't even remember properly; you know I tend to forget many things now a days owing largely to The "long pause" from all the happening life I used to have BC (before Corona). so, why did we go to Lansdowne? You know, work in corporate is mechanical; You do what you do but you don't know why you do. It's like a devil; soothing your body while eating away your soul; you want to escape but you will not. In this perpetual act of feeding the devil, you get a small window "The weekend" you need to replenish the energy in your soul. And furthermore Prashanth have been there recently after a LOT of research (that's what he generally do.. I mean literally for everything) he suggested the place and we all were lazy to search for any weekend get-away other than this. Moreover, this is a new place I have never been to or heard of. There, we have a reason now.

Friday night, we all packed our bags for the trip, went to kashmere gate, Maharanapratap ISBT. The idea was to take a govt. bus to Kotdwar or Lansdowne. we were a group of 5, Ajay, Prashanth, Rohit Bhaiyya, Monark Bhaiyya and myself. For some reason, there was a lot of rush at the bus station, we stood in a line, had our bags scanned and rushed towards Uttarakhand zone. I thought buses will be readily available, at least for half the distance; but the thing with govt busses was, reserved passengers only! yeah! that was unexpected. Running here and there hoping we would get a bus only to our despair. All along there were many private brokers who were asking if we would go, I have been to Haridwar prior to this on a private bus and I know how they take us and given double the price for ticket; that would be the worst service you could ever get; I would not even dare to hark back to it.

but here we don't have much of a chance, its either that or go back to room; I did not want to be the boulder of the group, so I rolled along with them following a broker to the outside of bus terminus. Ajay was expressing his disapproval all along; but as I said, we did not have much of a chance. So, we were in front of the Metro station again, we took a tickets, there was unusual rush at that time and we wait. There was not a single bus which had free space in it.. literally people were being stuffed like clothes into a suitcase. Thank God there was no corona at that time!

so we waited for an hour and a half as far as I remember, the bus has arrived to pick us up. ..a ... u ... gillu.... chulluu...... hold my hand...... (let me get down).... (push hard,, get on... ) you must be wondering what is all this. There was a lot of rush, the stampede was apocalyptic. people were rushing in to the bus as if its the last resort (indeed, it was the last bus; but you get the point) Prashant with his 3 bags, was ahead of us all, he was holding to his camera bag and tried to board the bus but there was no place.. literally, I was behind him and there was this fat uncle and aunty who had to get down as they boarded the wrong bus, I mean... seriously? so there was a stall. People were pushing in from behind and people were pushing out from the bus, Prashant was not sure where we all were, he cried "Gillu - Chullu, where are you?" (they were Ajay and my nick names give by Prashant). In this chaos ajay and I were laughing that Prashant was hanging in the air with one hand holding the bus and with the other holding the bag, Ajay told me to push him in, I did and Prashant couldn't feel a thing.

Some how, we all were in the bus, we had our reservation so there will be seats for us right? I mean, we were 5, so there must be 5 seats... that's math! right? no. we were crushed into a berth (the place in bus where you generally put your luggage was made into a sleeping berth), yeah you read it right... all! 4 in one berth.. with bags; me ajay, Prashant and Monark. Rohit was on the other with strangers. No words to describe. I suggest never travel on "Classic Bus service", for that matter, never travel by bus in this part of the country. So, crumbling upon one another, my head was hanging, Prashant's legs were hanging, Ajay occupied most of the space for his lean body, not fair.

Hey, I forgot to tell you, the bus was only up to Haridwar, so there was a lot more to travel yet. Upon reaching Haridwar, we learned that it was Kanwar festival that time hence, the rush. It took 20 minutes to get down the bus. We took a bus to Kotdwar as soon as we got down, this bus we empty. and the roads were beautiful, it was raining partially, and there was a lot of greenery. we all were silent, occupied as many seats as possible. I took the window seat, enjoyed the view, at many places I could see animal crossing caution board and looked eagerly if I could spot any, not so lucky. so this pleasant ride with little drizzles took us to kotdwar seamlessly. we had our lunch and I tried "Rabdi ghewar" for the first time, ~~~~~ it was very sweet, best gift for anyone with sweet tooth I would say. We took a jeep to reach 'Samsara and Samskara' resort. The jeep journey made me a little dizzy and was almost to cause nausea which was when we reached. hah! relief..

This place is perfect to be called as a weekend get-away, there was no network reception, you see no pesky boss or nosy neighbors; only you with your friends and lots of mountains and trees. This was the view from balcony, we were 5 members so we took a dorm; some other group was also to join the dorm but they didn't. For some reason I liked it when I heard other group is not coming.

As soon as we lodged ourselves in the dorm, we unpacked our wandering souls and let them free. we hiked up the hill behind the resort. No Idea where the road will take us, there were two dogs at resort, very friendly; one of them followed us to show the way! at first we thought of going to a temple nearby (Tarakeshwar temple) by the fog was very thick and it was raining, so we went to Lansdowne instead. We thought of walking there, it was about 2-3 kilometers, but after climbing for a kilometer or so, we were all tired, we did not use road for most of the part and the locations were very scenic; so we took some photographs instead, of all the couples, Rohit-Prashant couple is the best, one wants to take photographs and one is better at giving poses. so they were having a little DSLR photography sessions while Ajay and I were having fun taking photos with our phone.

We were tired of climbing the hill anymore so we took a took a jeep from there, but the dog that was following us made that cute face dogs make when they dont understand, like the one below; and Prashant was all emotional about leaving him, I almost had the Titanic background music in my head when they both grew apart, there was a lot of drama... prashant kept asking "Wo ghar chala jayega na? wo bahut confused face banaya tha yar! bechara..." (will he go home,?? he will no? he was very confused.... poor guy!) we consoled him saying he knows more roads than you in here, he is the Local guy.

So we reached Lansdowne, was it town? village? it was a settlement. there were very few houses, mostly army officers' and it started raining cats and dogs. we took some booze and some chips for the night, took a cab back to our resort.

It was almost night, we ordered food, Rohit and I were having the booze along with chicken. We were talking about cultural dance of our states I guess.. and it started with Ajay's state, Rajasthan. Rohit bhaiyya asked ajay to dance, Ghumar shy at first, No sooner he yielded to Rohit's iron will, we all were dancing to "Dhola re dhola". 😁 . There were fire flies "Jugnu" in hindi. Only those who were there that day can understand the fun in how Prashant cried "Jugnuuuu" with a hands pointing towards it.

There was a fire place in the garden, some people were (a couple, i presume) were had their dinner and were about to leave, i felt out arrival there made them leave sooner. we sat by the fire place but there was no fire since it was raining. Looking around, there were many thoughts racing in everyone's mind, about ghosts and wild animals in jungles, we witnessed a wild fire on the hills far above us and discussed that for a bit and Ajay started narrating his story about how a bear killed students in his college at hamirpur and how he was stuck in the jungle at night with two girls and with a bike and no petrol, harking back to how stupid he was he quoted that now he has grown to be more responsible than ever. I thought its quite opposite in my case. we were all sleepy and hit bed after that.

The next day, early in the morning everybody was up and ready but I was sleeping, it was foggy and we heard that there was a landslide in the region nearby halting all the traffic, it may take a day to clear it up, our plan was to leave for Delhi that day. we had a lot of fun and made some videos, here have a look.

The gloomy weather made be feel a bit nauseous but I was controlling my self. we went to Lansdowne again to book a cab back to Kotdwar, it was raining again and after a while we got a cab after some bargaining, we all got in. I felt nice being in Lansdowne and it rained a lot while we were there. Enjoying the scenery we started our return journey, the picturesque hills, serene climate and rivulets here and there, all this beauty will soon be replaced with concrete and pollution, I thought. an hour or so by cab made me throw up. I was feeling dizzy when we got off the car, we need a vehicle to reach Haridwar and we need money so me and Rohit bhaiyya went in search of ATM machine, the sun and heat made me sweat again and I felt relief. It would have been a nice bike trip, the roads were good and there was none to very less traffic. we waited for buses to leave but there was diversion due to the Kanwar festival so only few jeeps were going there, we all boarded a jeep and adjusted in the back of it along with a stranger, so there were six of us; adjusting our legs, prashant was continuously asking us to move a bit, and there was literally no space to move, poor guy he was being pressed against metal of the jeep. Rohit and Monark made fun of the way telugu people say "Saree" and were arguing it is "Sadee".

So, we reached Haridwar, we had our booking for a bus but the thing is, there were almost a million busses there, we had the license number of the bus and in search we went, drifted away from each other, me and Ajay were together. We called the bus driver and he gave a new direction each time, once he said at the starting of the bus stand, the other time he said he was near some board. There was mud everywhere and lot of people due to festival, on top of that there was no network reception, tired and wet, somehow we all met at a particular point which would be the exit of Haridwar and waited for the bus there. I never felt so aggravated on people till then, there were many people who removed the silencer of their bikes and riding making huge sound. I love motor cycles but that sound was nowhere near where near to be called as pleasant. Many people were having their own DJ set ups on tractors and they were dancing, enjoying themselves, there was this one particular boy, short and dark complexion, Prashant made fun of me comparing to him. 😆 . Aeons later finally the bus driver called for our location and we got into the bus. moral: NEVER GO TO HARIDWAR ON FESTIVAL

the ride was smooth thereafter, no sooner i had my seat, I removed my shoes and they were all wet. I had a good sleep. woke up for dinner and slept again. We reached Delhi Kashmiri gate, had a little trouble getting a cab but finally reached home!...

So, Conclusion : - Lansdown is a good place for weekend get-away and for couples to spend some quality time.

That's it for now folks!

La Moto Mexicana - an Excerpt from Bike-India magazine Apr 2021

I got the digital version of Bike India version through JIO and was delighted to read a fantastic story, afraid I might loose it after this month, the only way for me to save it was to write it down. (Screenshots were not that fun to read).

( Note: - neither the pictures Nor the story, I do not own both in this post.)

La Moto Mexicana (The Mexican Motorcycle)

Who am I? - Abhishek Iyer @pedalingon

Riding? - The Honda XR 150L (2019 model)

THIS HISTORY HAS ITS ORIGIN IN ME spending a month studying an adventure on a bicycle. Let me fill you first, though. A few years ago, I bicycled acress southern India, then a step further, along the length of Nepal, and, a year later, the length of Norway. It had been a  whole two years since the Northern Lights and the mind yearned for another epic adventure.

I found a slick-looking website about a six-week route through a desert in northern Mexico and, a couple of weeks with visa formalities taken care of, I was on a 24-hour bus ride across Mexico to the border wall: my starting point for this bicycle ride.

Little did I anticipate that this time things would be different. Just tow days into the ride. I would have to abandon my bicycle trip as I had packed too much for the ride and was paying for the weight of  it. With a heavy heart, I headed back to a town from the desert and decided to work on Plan B while sipping a cold local brew. Plan B would be to ditch the pedals and consider horses; not the quadrupeds, but the two-wheeled beauties we call motorcycles. A request for a motorcycle was posted on the social media, hoping that Plan B would be successful.

The next morning, I waited patently for replies on facebook Market place and, with little resourcefulness with Google Translate, I headed to a garage across town to meed Eduardo. Eduardo, with whom I got along very well, agreed to sell me his motorcycle and even offered to hold on to his name in its registration since there was no way I could legally buy a vehicle there. A really nice fellow that. Thus, a few excited runs to the ATM and about 35,000 pesos later, I was now a proud owner of a  2019 Honda XR 150L. Now the ride was most certainly on.

The plan? Ride across California from the north to the south zigzaging along the desert with the sea Cortez to the east and Pacific to the west, scenic beauty at its best. Now, although this motorcycle was not exactly a long-distance performance machine, it sure was a legitimate upgrade from a bicycle. So, I stuffed a cheap duffel with my camping gear, strapped it on to the motorcycle with bungee chords, and hit the road. I made a quick pit-stop at an Atuozone to pick up two liters of 15W20oil, an open-face helmet, and a keychain.

And there I was, about to live my own Motorcycle Diaries (devoid of any revolutionary thoughts, though) across the Baja peninsula, setting the asphalt ablaze with a top speed of ... er... 90km/hr. While I don't consider motorcycling a passion, something about the circumstances leading up to this moment really had me fired up.

Over the next couple of weeks, I was in for adventures I was not fully prepared for. Wild camping overlooking the Pacific, sharing magic moments with a surfer on a cliff one sunset, swapping bikes fora kawasaki KLR 650 to ride up to a national part, fishing for octopus with a local fishermen, grey whale watching in a lagoon in calving season, and stuffing myself with an abundance of tacos de pescados (fish tacos) and Birria.

Of course, there were several lows, too, such as painful ride through a storm to catch my flight back in time, having my phone run over by a lorry, and snapping my tent poles mid way into the trip. But then that is the kind of drama that makes motorcycling adventures so worthy.

The fact I realized for myself over these few weeks on the road was that when live gives you lemons, having a 150-cc motorcycle between your legs and miles of  long, lonesome road ahead makes good lemonade. Today, I find myself ogling at 650-cc mean machines here in India and fantasizing about an excuse to buy one of those and have my own Himalayan (mis)adventure.

Meanwhile, If any of you happen to be in Mexico and have time on your hands, you can go and use my Honda that is stashed away in Tijuana.

The Shikara Effect - Ride to Tajmahal

The Shikara Effect

"Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all" - Helen Keller

It was Saturday, February the 9th 2020; yes, it was just before COVID hit us in the gut. After a "hectic" (JK) office day Ajay, me and Vinay decided to watch a newly released movie on Kashmiri pundits; yes, the movie was "Shikara". Prashant was not there with us as he was with his Girlfriend and they met after a long time _ that's another story _ just, he was not with us. So, the movie was good, the way it was portrayed and the message it wants to convey were lucid and vivid. We were all moved by the movie especially the last scene where the actress takes her last breath while afloat on a boat in Yamuna river behind the famous Taj Mahal looking at the monument; and the actor (her husband) breaks down into silent tears holding her body.

It was sad, so with that mood, we came back to our beloved chai place in HUDA market, parked our bikes and sat on them (more of a lean). for some reason we did not order anything and were discussing the movie, Prashant called me for my helmet so he and his girlfriend can go to Gurgaon and it was almost night. Yeah! you either have to be too stupid or too strong to take that decision, and he is definitely the first one. I did not stop them, but i asked them politely, Gurgaon? abhi? (samajhdar ko ishara kaafi h) and he looked confidently at me and said 'yes' and asked me for my helmet so he won't catch cold ( it was february as I mentioned) ~ (Personal note: for those of you who know prashath, he said "Thand lag jayegi na!!" :D) So I handed my helmet to him, they both took off, we were back to chatting, Vinay had his 'Sigh' nodding his head sideways disapproving their decision given the time and season, I assured him, "are kuchh nhi hoga!, kya hojayega?" and we continued to chat for a bit and suddenly out of the blue Ajay said, "I am feeling as if I may never have a chance to look at the Taj mahal, shall we ride to Agra?". Me and Vinay looked at him, checking if he is in his full senses. There was a pregnant silence which broke into my doubtful "why not?".

But wait a minute, Just a minute ago, I gave my all-season helmet to Prashant and now I have to ride with an open helmet in chilling cold weather. Yeah! shit happens. Had Ajay asked us a minute or two earlier, I would have had a much better ride. so we three were ready to leave to Agra. We came home to pack our stuff and I was urging them to get ready and pack all the things; Ironically, I was the one this time to pack so late. Vinay wore a jeans and jacket, I took my biker jacket and a jeans & Ajay with his driver jacket that he bought at Nainital. We packed two backpacks and stuffed them in my Saddle bags; by the way, Gods Triton Saddle bags were awesome, I had not problem whatsoever and we took off.

It was around 9 PM and the temperature was around 10C that night and it was waxing gibbous moon (almost full moon) so the night was a lot clearer. the traffic in Faridabad was as hectic with buses and Auto-rickshaws blocking the road most of the time, and the dust! there is always some or the other road being constructed making all the ways dusty, we had to endure it for some 45 minutes before we hit the Highway. We had some parathas (not that good) for Dinner and continued the ride.

The best part of long drives the the faster you drive, the slower you start to take things of your life. Many things flash before your eyes, especially when the road is brightly lit with street lamps and empty (I suppose there is no need to explain how empty, as we have been looking at empty roads most of the time for one year now) We exchanged bikes took as little breaks as possible as it was late in the night. But when you don't have any idea how much more time your journey will take, your mind will play games with you and make you feel all tired, I was dark and cold; we almost reached Agra, 40 Km away and felt we should rest for a bit, It was Mathura and we took a left turn into the city getting off the highway, the city road was reasonably wide and it almost looked abandoned, there were some people here and there but mostly it looked abandoned, well what else can you expect at 2AM. We were in search of a Hotel room to stay.

Ajay didn't quite like the first hotel we found so
we searched for a bit more in the town and it was a good bargain. we almost took to bed when Vinay wanted to wash his face, the water was ice cold, then he remembered he needed a towel, they made fun of me while packing, now look who needs a towel. uh oh! too soon for a punch line, I forgot to take my pajamas! So I had to sleep in my jeans. We tried to watch TV, it was nothing but Blue screen. We slept sooner than we thought. another Uh-Oh! I even forgot my tooth brush.😂. So got up and ready to go out; It was still early in the morning, it was barely sunrise we rode on our bikes into Mathura, along the riverside through narrow alleys and turns and busy market streets filled with cows, cars and people alike, it was as if people spawned like in videogames, all of a sudden, I see a lot of people everywhere. There were many temples but we were not so decisive on where to go, there were a lot of people(guides) who offer to show you around for cheaper price, they even boast that are the "True Brahman" of the city whose ancestors served the gods on the same land. We did not fall for it. Silently crept, we parked our bikes at some "Dham" a bank of river Yamuna which was make accessible by steps and slowly walked our way towards the river, a boat man offered us a ride and we refused him, but the idea of boating was interesting after a minute or two. Yeah! when someone offers something, we reject and run behind it a minute later😆. We took another boat; interestingly there were a lot of gangs of monkeys in Mathura; Ajay was really startled when one of the monkeys came very close to reach a flower. We put our mobile phones in the pocket fearing they would snatch it and boarded the Boat immediately. The ride was peaceful, there were many birds gliding over the water. here have a look.

By the time we were back on track, it was very hot; quite opposite to what we  were facing the last night, now i feel the Biker jacket that i was wearing to be quite troublesome as i was sweating too much. There is not much road left from here to Agra but the time we were travelling made it tougher than we thought, there were many trucks and people everywhere even on the highway. The highway was flushed with people and most of them were going in the wrong way, I had many close encounters and after a while I got used to getting close encounters, there were many careless riders. no to mention the Car traffic, I would have to muster up all my courage to go into the fast lane, they were obviously travelling faster than the limiting speed, but then again who would care!? Highway was a straight one but I seldom rode at speeds greater than 50km/hr. The traffic didn't let me.

Finally we reached Agra after an hour or so, Night riding experience and Mathura part was very good. We met at a rally point after drifting away in the traffic and rode together into Agra, our first stop - Taj Mahal; the reason for this trip. There was more than usual crowd at the ticketing booth and there was no receptionist, people were just standing in the line for nothing, after an hour or so, we got entry into the Taj Mahal. as always, the sight of it takes all the worries away, not because of the beauty of it alone but also the architecture, the ventilation system which makes stream of air rush in through the main gate when we enter refreshing our mood while entering the Taj premises. I have been there 5 times and its the same experience every time. Here are some pics.

After that we went to my favorite place for Lunch, Dasaprakash <Google Maps link> the Fried rice here is really heavenly to taste; The is not a paid promotion, we have been there in person. Do try. The traffic in Agra was literally nuts, there are no signals yet people stop and move on will, no directions being followed, no nothing, there are traffic police working; I don't know, Its like they live in a different dimension and not able to see the whole chaotic situation there, I wonder how come they are at such peace. Its like they are in some kind of weird coma. So, some how we barely escaped many accidents and reached the place.

After lunch, the return journey was as chaotic as it was when we stated, the hectic traffic and on a personal note, Vinay and Ajay if you are reading this, remember the horse that running towards ahead of Ajay's bike, There was this marriage ceremonial horse which was barely under control and Ajay was afraid to cross it 😁. It was very dark and for some stupid reason, people are standing in the middle of highway, Take extra care and carry fog lights just to make sure you don't hit anyone. TRAFFIC IN HERE IS REALLY NUTS.

That's that folks! Have a great day ahead!

Trip to Nainital - A Travel story

John Muir Black and white Photograph
I am losing precious days. I am degenerating into a machine for making money. I am learning nothing in this trivial world of men. I must break away and get out into the mountains to learn the news
― John Muir

Deadline, Target, Design you name it, I presume these are the common terms in all corporate offices, I am not here to rant about all that, you can do it better than me. So, just like you, I was so much vexed about the corporate culture. I wanted a weekend getaway. Me, my friends Ajay and Prashanth decided to visit Nainital for a break. I was never much into planning; Prashanth took care of most of it, if not all of it while Ajay was a trusted financial adviser, I mean if I manage my spending curve around Ajay; I am spending very less as opposed to my impulsive buying nature. So, I am safe! Two great managers and me, all I have to do, is just go with the flow.

So, we boarded a train from Delhi. I guess I need not explain about the Traffic and Pollution we have in here. I remember I had very less food that day and I was hungry. The old Delhi station was packed with Passengers. I had a feeling that most of them are living on the platform itself; Only that could explain it. Unfortunately, I don't have photographs of the railway station from that day. We waited for an Hour or Two and the train has arrived at the railway station. There was pandemonium all over, everyone was running to board the train, so was I.

The platform had no displays of where the Coach will be positioned, and my luck isn't that good anyway, so we ran through people, there were trolleys, Old people, children and we all had bags, Prashant had two bags! Finally, we reached the coach and boarded the train. The experience of boarding the train itself was an indelible one. All the toil to board it and it didn't start for another hour. It was a Tri-seat, all the three were on the same seat, I was on the Aisle side while Prashant was on the window side for his own reasons. After an hour or so, the train started and the ride was fun, it was with friends so we made fun of each other for most of the time.

I slept on the train for some time; we had some biscuits and chips. Finally, we reached Kathgodam, the station closest to Nainital. It was dark when we got off the train, we could feel the temperature difference from Delhi to Kathgodam, here it's cool and there was no Smog. We looked for some transport from there to Nainital and suddenly a cool breeze, Ajay started praising the "Pahadi" region as he studied in Hamirpur, he was articulating how pure the air in hilly region is. "Pahadi hawa ka maza hi alag h, Are Bhai! Aha!". we bargained a cab to Nainital.

We reached Nainital Mall road in about two and a half hours from Kathgodam, It was a Ghat section, so the cab ride was not the best. I felt nauseous and was hoping to complete the ride as soon as possible. Of all the things about Hill stations, traversing by Bus or a car is the worst. It was dark and cold by the time we reached the Mall road, almost two in the morning and everyone was fast asleep. According to Prashanth, we had our room booked on the Mall road, like 400 meters but the location turns out to be wrong. We felt stranded in the middle of the night. It is at this time we saw some dark-figure moving on the road at some distance, some .. Animal? It was strolling about the road and suddenly it started coming towards us, I did not have my glasses on, I felt it like some Sheep or something which has so much fur on it and looking at the way it was walking, It definitely was a carnivore! The guys were a little behind me and they turned back, I was still not sure what it was but it definitely gave chills to all of us, we were walking away from it but we were not running, it closed on us and Luckily it was a dog, but still, a ferocious one. The dogs in this region are too big, they are no more the common street dogs that we find in India, these can be called as Hounds. It decided not to attack us. Phew! but it had its tail up, it was not wagging so, its probably alerting us and marking its territory??We called the room and it was on some hill we had to climb to reach the room, we walked and walked to finally reach the place; the dog followed us up to some distance and then turned away hah! relief!

We pounded on the door of the hotel room which was closed, the receptionist woke and rubbed his eyes, we checked in and complained about their location on the map. The hotel was not great, a decent one. They gave us a smelly room at first, but then Prashanth talked them into giving us a better one. We slept peacefully that night and the next morning enjoyed the view of Nainital.

A View of Nainital in the morning from hotel window

The best part of having a trip with friends is, we can have a lot of fun, the first thing we did that day was order room service for hot water, the hotel said we can have water once the sun shines brightly as they had solar water heaters; it was a cloudy day at the start and there were some drizzles which made the climate even cooler than normal. We brushed our teeth and Ajay wanted oil for his hair, I went out to get some oil and It was cold! I was in flip-flops and T-shirt; I am from Visakhapatnam, a city on the seashore, so flip-flops and T-shirts come to me naturally, Cool breeze reminded me I was in Nainital and i need to cover myself from cold, we got oil, clouds cleared away after some time, there was sunshine and the temperature was normal again. we bathed, with hot water of course; you can imagine how good it was, everything was cool and the water was hot! it felt really good.

We order food, packed our luggage and set out to explore Nainital! We were getting down the hill and came across some cab drivers, they were offering us ride but we (especially me) was not in the mood at all to travel in a cab, but they were insisting us with interesting offers, one came forward and said he would take us to some 39 locations and give us a tour in Wagon-R "Mast Wagon-R me ghumayenge!" we laughed at his offer and carried on to the Mall road in search of Bike rentals, there were some but by the time we reached to hire a Bike it was almost 10AM thanks to Prashanth's simple routine for getting ready (Sarcasm of course; Prashanth takes a lot of time for getting ready.)

We finally got to a dealer who got us two bikes, one was Royal Enfield Thunderbird, and the other was Bajaj Avenger, We were not confident about riding RE bikes on a hilly road and by the way, this was my first experience with a RE bike, at first I was skeptical but I gave it a test ride and thought, not with ease but I can ride it. I did not have my Driver's License at that time and had little to no experience in riding Bikes, so this trip was going to be an adventurous one to me, I thought. Ajay wanted some bike other than heavy RE Thunderbird 350, he wanted to ride some lightweight bikes but no luck, so he settled with the Avenger that we were offered with. So did I with the Thunderbird. We confirmed the local visiting places with the dealer, he gave us a rough map on a piece of paper, the total trip was going to be around 120 Km in total. We filled the Petrol accordingly and were riding the bikes to our first place, some Viewpoint. The traffic was not too much, Ajay was driving and Prashanth was navigating him, I was following them. We had to cross Nainital Mall road for getting to our first location, everything was cool until there was a small traffic jam on a steep road. I had to hold the bike till it clears off, as soon as the traffic was getting cleared, I tried to move but the bike stalled! Naturally, my gear was not proper for the bike to move. Now I am the reason for the traffic.

The road was steep; I couldn't move the 197 Kg bike to a side and start it again, whatever I do, I would have to do it then and there, the car guy behind me was honking too bad as if he is late for an important meeting. I was so embarrassed that I didn't know what to do. Neither can I slip the bike backward nor forward as there was traffic behind and a steep road in front of me. I thought the guys did not stop for me, but to my relief, I could see Ajay standing at a corner signaling me to come. There was this Pan shop guy, who realized the problem and asked me to put it in first gear and start the bike again. I did as he said and finally, I could manage to move the bike. One could easily say that I am a complete newbie by looking at the way I revved my engine, somehow I managed to come out of that place, Hah! That was a heck of an experience for the first time.

The journey continues again, we were riding through the main road of Nainital; it was a single road having two-way traffic. There were deep curves for about every 2 minutes and at last one final steep road and we are out of Nainital, the valley adjoining Nainital was very beautiful, There were hills on my right-hand side and a valley to my left. I did not dare to pass close to the edge of the road. All I was doing was humming some songs and following the guys.

We traveled for half an hour to reach a T junction point, there was a rock climbing event, and people were participating in it. We did not understand what was going on and went in looking for a View spot, all we found was a Cliff, we inquired about a viewpoint and found out we have to travel further a few Kilometers down the road to reach a viewpoint, we came out disappointed and thought of not to waste time anymore but then we saw some tourists visiting the place, I thought maybe we are missing out something and followed them, just around the corner, there was a spot called "Hawa Cave",

Hawa cave, Nainital
Hawa Cave

people have to reach for it by climbing rocks to find a small opening in the mountain, and there was cool wind from it. We clicked some pictures there and got down before the crowd increased. Now we were back to the T-junction deciding which way to go, One was the place we thought to go with a good road and the other was a small road with very less traffic, we chose to go with the second option and turned or bikes in that direction, the destination is supposed to be a view of Himalaya mountain range, I followed the guys through the jungles on Nainital, We were almost there when I happen to cross them as they slowed down. I could not think of the reason why they slowed down and moved forward to the location. I came to know their bike had a problem. Ajay managed to bring it to the place and parked it, he was all upset about the condition of the bike, there was a problem with the battery in the Avenger we had, this model of avenger had no kick start so there would be no way to start the bike. No wonder he was upset.we sat on a bench near the viewpoint, there was a substantial inflow of tourists, It looked like a typical Uttarakhand tourist place with some market for duplicate sunglasses, necklace, etc., horse ride, beautiful view of nature, Prashanth did some photography with his new DSLR while I and Ajay were taking some rest. I clearly remember they made fun of me that day as we sat on the concrete bench, my legs were not completely touching the ground. We enjoyed a little after that and decided to move to our next stop.

We got ready to leave but Ajay's bike wouldn't start. They both sat on the bike and rolled it down the hill, and tried to jumpstart the bike which he could, after a few trials. It was a relief for all of us, else it would have been a very difficult trip. With all that new enthusiasm, we now set our course towards our initial destination, the main road from where we took a detour, towards "KhurpaTal Viewpoint". As we were descending from the hill, we saw the Nainital lake from a clearing in the woods, the picturesque view forced us to halt for a moment, we looked for a place to park and found a Maggie place, we had Maggie and Bread Omlet, common food you would find in hilly areas of India and enjoyed the scenic beauty silently.

Nainital

Out of the blue, Ajay feels he should get the photography done, he wanted some good photographs with the view and on the bikes. Prashanth reached for his camera bag and set his equipment, but the results with the view were eh!👅 They were not so good to showcase his skills but here is a glimpse of his photography.

so we moved, not so far from there, Ajay's mind was still stuck with the idea of getting a good photograph, so we stopped again and used the DSLR to the fullest of our knowledge, to get something which Ajay could live with. In fact, the photo gets so many right swipes for him in Tinder at a later point in time.
The photo which got famous on Tinder
Ajay (Left) and Prashanth (right)
Satisfied with the Photographs we set our course back on track again. We reached the place in no time and parked our bikes. There were a lot of crowds at the place, tourists were mostly from Delhi and surrounding regions obviously and also I could tell by their car service numbers. We had Maggie again and a cup of tea, neither refreshing nor tasty it was, but something which will not keep me away from hunger. There was a market where I and Ajay bought Sunglasses; duplicates each for some 100 bucks. Wearing them won't do any good but we were acting like bosses of the region. To reach the viewpoint, we had to either walk or hire a horse but there was only one path, through a narrow passageway. The passageway was full of Horse excreta and smelled too bad; we had to cross it as soon as possible to breathe fresh air again.

Once on the spot, we had some photographs and enjoyed the view; we wanted a group photo and tried taking a selfie with the DSLR and failing badly; we asked a stranger to click a photo of ours. The man was a kind of over-friendly and was passing comments on us as we pose for the photos "Saare ke saare hero lag rhe ho - Smile!!" He even took some single photos of ours too. His photos were not that good but I clearly remember his comment "Sir, aap Border me Sunny deol lag rhe ho". We conveyed "Enough!" with a polite smile. Prashanth was concerned about the time we spend at each of these locations to cover as much as possible before sunset. Therefore, we returned to our bikes and searched for our next stop which was some Waterfalls.

Here you go, you too enjoy the view with us!

We set our destination on our maps and filled with enthusiasm, we rode our Bikes towards "Woodland waterfall" there were tourist cars here and there parked on the road as we moved, everyone were enjoying the climate and view, there was a deep turn and to our delight, we thought of halting for a moment, the view was so beautiful that the rush to be at another spot seemed unimportant. we had some more photography and moved again. Ajay was an experienced rider unlike me, therefore he was riding fast. I did not want to nor was I ready to drive as fast as him, so I decided to ride a bit slow and enjoy the view as I ride.

Khurpatal view from road on Royal enfield thunderbird in Nainital amidst forest with beautiful roads
I always wanted a photo like this.
There were another two turns, and we reached some plain land, there was a big lake with stairs built around it. It seemed like an abandoned tourist attraction, there was a small restaurant where I found Dosa available, the worst decision ever. The coconut chutney had no Coconut in it. Dosa wasn't that great as well. We were not satisfied and had another plate of Chole Bhature, it was good. Its always better to eat according to place. There was this creek where I and Ajay sat while Prashanth was immersed in his Photography. Ajay and I were playing with the water, as he bent to splash the water onto me, his glasses slipped into the creek. He told me, he never could keep his glasses safe. "yeh 100 - 100 rupay wale chashme har bar kho jaate hain mere se." and remembered how he lost them in Goa. We saw mountain goats climbing the steep, if not almost perpendicular hill. The location was surrounded by mountains on all the sides so the sunset too fast in there. We began to shiver as the temperatures were falling. Prashanth was still immersed with his photography, he was new to Photography then, and was trying something out with long exposure and flowing water, meanwhile, I and Ajay had a cup of tea, had another Chole Bhature and climbed down the stairs to the lake. Prashant joined us shortly after that and urged us to move "Chalo Chalo nikalte hain, time nhi h humare pass.", so did we.

The forest was mostly full of pine trees with a road running through it like a black carpet welcoming us as we ride. In about 5 minutes, we reached the waterfall place. The woodland waterfall. There was ticket entry and Prashanth was into photography again, Ajay and I were literally bored by now with the photography and had some selfies on our own. DSLR is for pros.

The park was very small, it was as if constructed only for that waterfall. There was a road adjoining the park and we found an old accident spot, a bus toppled into the park. After Prashanth's photography, we called it a day to return to our room.

As usual, Prashanth and Ajay were on the Avenger and I on the Thunderbird were on our way to Nainital town. I had to try hard to keep up to Ajay. It was almost dark, especially near Lake place. On our way back, we stopped for one last time, it was the view again. I couldn't believe my eyes for how beautiful the road was during sunset, there were clouds beneath us as we climbed the hill, the road was pitch black, and on a hairpin bend, we could not see the sun but the orange sky on the horizon made it feel like heaven. I can find no more words to describe it, have a look for yourselves.

Nainital evening view from road.

You can see the lake I was talking about, and the road we came through. Riding through a scenery like the one above, is the most delightful event for a stressed-out mind. We did not rush it anymore; we sat there for a few minutes and enjoyed the evening; we chatted for a bit and began to return. By the time we reached Nainital, it was dark and there was a lot of traffic. We parked our bikes and began to walk. We saw this market where there were a lot of tourists and entered. There were stairs all along and shops to the side of the road. Then again, Ajay's "OH" Slipped from his mouth as he saw some beautiful young ladies as we walked. He began to praise the Pahadi Women yet again "Pahadi ladkiyan! Are bhai! kya Khatarnaak lagti hain!" while Prashanth was trying to buy something for his girlfriend and mom and was asking Ajay about the souvenirs he could buy but Ajay could not stop praising the ladies and ignored him "Abe ruk yaar, pehle dekhne de. Han yar!".

Market of Nainital
Market of Nainital
We entered even a bigger market and thought of buying a Jacket for winter, the market had no varieties to our liking. There was a temple nearby, we entered the temple, Prashanth went in the dome for "Darshana" while I and Ajay were by the lake adjoining the temple, for an energetic start in the morning, a peaceful evening like this is a perfect ending.

By now we walked a lot and were tired so, thought to return the bikes to the dealer, Ajay was excited about buying a Jacket that he forgot the helmet at some store. We tried to get it but the store owners denied seeing any helmet. Ajay expressed his feeling bleakly about losing the helmet. "Abe yar, Pese thuk gye!"

We searched and searched for it till we lost all hope and decided to return our bikes to the dealer. On our way to him we drew cash and I bought a Mouth organ, Ajay was looking to buy a bracelet but he did not get what he had in mind. Prashanth and Ajay were taking the bikes to return, we thought if two people were returning the bikes, he might forget about the third helmet, therefore I walked. I was looking at the market on the mall road. There were stores of almost all the brands. I did not think the mall road was very long until I walked on it. There were a lot of tourists, maybe its the season. by the time I reached the dealer place, Ajay and Prashanth tried to manage the dealer for the missing helmet, but he did not yield. they had to pay 1200 rupees for the missing helmet. We had some food and set out buy a Jacket, we got into a shop or two. Ajay liked a hoodie but there was "Swag Swag Swag" printed on it, I and Prashanth were waiting to laugh at him. I did not like any over there, nor did Ajay. I had no idea what to look for in a jacket we entered another one where Ajay liked a Top and thought of buying for his girlfriend, uh! wait, he had a breakup. "Abe khareedneka man kiya par yaad aaya khareedu to kiskeliye khareedu sala!" then we entered the adjoining store, Allen Solly and bought two jackets. We all sat on a bench by the lake. Having a cup of tea we were discussing about the temperatures at various hill stations. Happy with the day, we returned to our room, Ajay kept on saying the first thing he would do in the morning is to go and search for the helmet. Prashant changed into pajamas which looked better than his day clothes. Another peaceful night, we all had a sound sleep.

<Next Day>

We woke up, everything was common Prashanth was getting ready and taking more time in the Bathroom meanwhile Ajay played Honey Singh songs on his speaker and was jumping on the bed. Ajay had a bad dream last night, he dreamt of eating a fish and woke up crying therefore to refresh the mood he played the songs. We got all ready and reached the same dealer and hired Bikes, it was the same Avenger but Thunderbird was a black one this time. We reached the Market area in search of the Helmet. It was Sunday and all the School students were having a rally for saving Environment and Animals. The traffic was being controlled and diverted by the police, therefore there was a lot of rush on the roads. Ajay went to seek the helmet while Prashant and I were waiting there. That day was a little hot for our clothes. Luckily Ajay found the helmet and was really happy about it. We went back to the dealer to return the helmet and set our journey to Bhimtal. We were on the crossroads on Nainital where we drew money for the road and set the navigation on our maps, we had to take a left but there were two Lefts. Luck was never on our side, little did we know we took a wrong turn. The navigation on Maps did not notify us and we rode merrily on without having any clue.

The roads were good. Since I did not have Driver's License, Prashanth and Ajay were driving while I was Ajay's Pillion. We went on for some distance but Prashanth could not keep up, we were having frequent breaks in waiting for him, there was an incident when a Bus behind Prashanth was trying to overtake and he was negligent to give way, the Bus driver was honking really bad. Ajay and I were worried about his driving and exchanged our bikes, I was riding Avenger this time and Ajay was riding Thunderbird with Prashanth. We rode for almost an hour and got tired. We clearly remember the dealer saying Bhimtal was about 15 Km from Nainital but we were confused that we are in no way closer to it. We took a break for a minute, took some pictures and decided to ask for directions.

We found a man waiting for Bus, asked him and he said we took a wrong turn at Nainital "Aap to Galat mud gye, Aage se Left lelena, chhota sa rasta milega, Bada road pe mat jana", he showed us a shortcut that would take us to the right path. We followed his instructions which lead to a Pathway. The condition of the road was not at all good. There were no barricades at the edged and no retro-reflective boards. We were the only people on the road for miles. Occasionally there were some army guys patrolling the area other than us. The journey on this road was quite tiresome. Dust and narrow pathway with Buses overtaking us in conjunction with no traffic gave me chills.

We reached a location where there was a metal bridge and a very deep valley with a river at its bottom. We crossed it, the location was so deserted and it was hot that day. There was dust on our clothes and we had no protective gear for eyes. My helmet visor was not clean. We took a few breaks and uncertain of the location we were at, we moved forward. I was riding alone through narrow paths hugging huge mountains and deep valleys.

The utter serenity of the place attracted me at first then started to feel like a perilous pathway. After a long journey, I reached the main road. I was a bit slower than Ajay, they were not in my sight anymore. To my amaze, I saw a signboard stating Nainital 9 Km from there, all this tiresome journey till here only amounts to 9 Km, I thought. In fact, it was a total distance of 32 Km extra we rode that day. one mistake at the start and we had to go through a long journey. The road was good and I reached some town, but I was still not sure if I am on the correct path, the signboard got me confused. I stopped at a place and called the guys to confirm the direction. A few-minute-ride from there, I reached 'Bhowali' and joined with the guys. I thought we reached the place, little did I know we only reached half the distance. We parked our bikes to have some Food, as far as I remember it was Pao Bhaji and had a cup of tea to continue our journey towards Bhimtal. The road was not great again but there were people seen all along the way. There was even some traffic on the road. I rode silently through all along till we reached a Town, Karki Gaon. We had to cross the Town to reach the Lake. By now I came to know Prashanth was not feeling good, he caught some cold on the way.

The location was sparsely distributed with tourists. There was a tree with a concrete bench surrounding it, the lake, few boats and common food you would get in any tourist place of India, groundnuts, and Corn. As soon as we parked our bikes, Prashanth rushed towards the concrete bench and fell asleep, he handed his camera over to me, using his bag as a pillow, he fell asleep. Meanwhile, Ajay and I enjoyed Nature a bit, then came, some ducks, they would eat anything and everything we gave them. The ducks seemed to be accustomed to humans as they approached us but Ajay wasn't trained to be around animals. Ajay is so afraid of other species, he is even afraid of Squirrels. As I was feeding the ducks with some groundnuts, I threw some towards him so they would go near him but then his panic made me abstain from doing so.

Bhimtal

There was this Woman in Black that Ajay could not stop looking at. I was talking to him about Flowers valley but all he heard was "Flowers vali" and asked me "Kon flowers vali be? ... Flowers vali kon". If anything was certain that moment, it's only that Ajay's attention can be accessed only when there are no beautiful women around. His systems go haywire even if there is the slightest possibility of a beautiful girl being anywhere near him. So I could talk to him when she left but then again, it was a tourist place, there was another Woman in Red. I stuck with the ducks. Then came pigeons. Looking at all the birds around me, small children were closer to me so were their moms but the thing is, children, attract young women! I don't know if ducks and Pigeons could understand what was happening but they refrained from eating my corn and peanuts. Now they enjoy the Peanuts from these Girls. Wow! we thought to ourselves, "Tharki Kabutar" [Lascivious Pigeon].

Look at his face! Isn't he saying something??

Prashanth had his sleep, he too wanted to enjoy as much as possible. There was a family of swans swimming in a row, The sight was beautiful, he tried to capture from the place he was sitting but I rushed him to a proper location.

Bhimtal nainital

We spent some time there, before going back Prashanth wanted to check with Pharmacist, there was a steep road, the guys rode up the hill but I was skeptical initially, as the bike did its job I gained confidence in me, I started to like the bike the more I rode it. I even decided I would buy a Thunderbird 350 for myself at that moment. So, we set our journey to Sattal, another lake place. The route was the same but a left turn into the jungle at a place.

As we entered the byway to the left of the Main road, the temperature fell steeply. We could feel the cold as it was getting dark so we packed our jackets tightly, there were monkeys all around on the trees. We rode through the jungle on the byway, a few turns later there was a Lake. I  Parked the Bike with shivering hands and entered the place.

The location was well established with the canteen and shopping counters. There were boats again and a few restaurants on banks of the lake. There was also a small island where a rope was tied with ropeway arrangement. People were having fun swinging on the rope, they were ready for this with extra clothes, we had no idea of the place. Prashanth was enthusiastic and was persuading into either boating or the rope swinging. " Agar Mera tabiyat theek hota to me zaruur karta", "Chal na yaar karte Hain!" It was very cool and I had no mood for boating, Ajay and I kept on resisting for a long time until we yielded. We went with swinging. I did not want to do it at first but after looking at Ajay, even I eager to do it.

Sattal near nainital

As soon as Ajay got off, I asked the helper to tie me up with the safety equipment, they asked me to crawl till the middle of the rope and a boy saw swinging me up and down. The swing was fun amidst mountains, feeling light, I couldn't even feel my own weight, being thrown up into the sky. Prashanth and Ajay were taking my photographs while I hoot joyfully. I imbued Prashanth with curiosity, he forgot all about his health and he too had the ride.

It was almost dark, we had some Maggie, It's was too spicy. Paid him via Paytm as we were low on cash. The internet connectivity was low so Prashanth took some time to pay. As the sunset, insects, and crawlers started to do their work. There were a lot of mosquitoes in the area.

We took off with our bikes, there was a dog near the parking area which followed Ajay's bike, he narrowly escaped. I was following them, the dog couldn't focus on me as we leave so I escaped. The road was pitch black, Ajay was fast, as usual, I was keeping up-to him. We reached the byway entry point where it was almost a U-Turn. The guys took off easily, I tried to turn but slipped, the bike almost fell, but I managed to get it back to an upright position. Feeling embarrassed, I quickly took off from that place, Ajay was nowhere to be found, I was alone on the way. I took my time to reach them, the traffic was heavy at night.

The oncoming traffic had their lights to high-beam, I couldn't properly judge between road and valley, it was a dangerous road for an inexperienced driver like me. Little did I know My headlight was set to low made me wonder how Ajay could be so fast with such low light. I didn't even know that there was a high-beam option in the light. I checked with the buttons on the handlebar and Viola! I could finally see the road, at least the situation was better than being dependant on the Light from the cars behind me.

I joined with the guys in Bhowali where there was a lot of traffic, the place seemed to have a few showers as the roads were wet and muddy. There was this place where I was behind a bus and It stopped on a very steep road, the same situation that I faced yesterday, if not even worse than that. But this time, I did not give up. I successfully maneuvered the bike out of there. We crossed heavy vehicles, there was a point when all the bikes were ahead of the traffic, they were turning around the hairpin bends like a Moto GP race bikes. I was the last one of all. I let the guys go forward and rode at my own pace. Just before r reaching Nainital I met the guys who were waiting for me. Prashant was complaining about Ajay, how they were about to fall off the road when Ajay couldn't stop staring at a beautiful lady. We exchanged bikes.

Ajay, I reached the mall road, there were barricades all over the place, I remember the place so we took U-Turn at the proper place. Prashant couldn't follow us, he miss the turn and moves ahead of the location. We saw him ride the bike without looking in another direction other than the road and cried out loud to stop him but no luck. He went till the end of Mall road where he had to park. The barricades would be taken off in an hour so we did roam about Mall road full of tourists. Ajay couldn't control his happiness, Prashanth was pleading us to take him to someplace warm. I can never forget how he was insisting he was ill. "Me bimaar hu na" he said this sentence at least 10 times, we went to a restaurant and ordered food. The special thing we ordered was 'Khimeeri roti' the restaurant person suggested this saying it is made of special yeast. We had lots of food, Khimeeri roti was not that tasty. We still got lots of time, Ajay and I thought of strolling up and down the Mall road, we had an Ice cream, Ajay saw a girl who was wearing shorts, holding hands of his boyfriend and wondered if girls wouldn't be feeling cold, we were all tugged up with nice sweaters and we're still shivering but she was wearing shorts we thought. "Abe inko thandi nhi lagti Kya? Han Yar, yahan mare ha rhe h thand ke mare.. hhah". Prashanth wasn't feeling well by then and took off to the room with all the luggage. We strolled for about an hour and returned to the room. Prashant was on phone by the time we arrived. We all slept peacefully for yet another night.

<next day>

We woke up and got fresh as soon as we can to enjoy Nainital a little more. We were walking down the Mall road in the morning which was so empty and looked so wide, sweepers were cleaning the road. we saw some boats in the lake, Prashanth wanted to go boating. He was stubborn as a mule, "Abe chalte hain na yaar!", "Kal bhi boating nahi kiye the." so we yielded and we all went Boating. The water in the lake was Nonchalant we were all cheerful. There were other boats too, one boat had fifteen people, they all seemed to be a group of friends. They were rocking the boat too hard, our helmsman was worried for them and complained how stupid they were.

Nainital from Lake

After a while, we were back on the road again, Ajay and I were gazing at some beautiful young women while Prashanth was back to being sick. He sat on the path and was trying to sleep, i couldn't understand how bad he was ill and was making fun of him. The ladies stood there for some time, they were trying to take a look at the fish in the lake, they were disappointed and were about to leave when I and Ajay went to a nearby shop and bought some Bun, we threw bun in the lake attracted all the fish to us which in-turn attracted the girls to come to us. HAH! Plan worked! we had fun for a while and left for Lunch.

We had no idea of when to leave, we reached the bus station which looked like some remains of a big place, confused between going Kathgodam by bus or a cab we tried to bargain but the result was negative, we took Bus. It took some time to collect passengers before leaving. The worst part of traveling by bus was back again. I was nauseous again but can't help it, I controlled myself and listened to some music. We got down at Haldwani in hope of getting a bus to Delhi, little did we know it was mostly online booking, we did not get a seat in any good bus. We enquired, waited and lost all hope and finally realized, we had to go in a Normal-seater bus with no proper suspension. That was a long night. The road was too bad and there was traffic all along. I have this bad habit, whenever the bus stops for a few minutes, there would be roadside sellers who mostly sell bananas or chips, I buy and hand them a bigger denomination note, the poor seller would be all hasty in handing over the change to me, Ajay always makes fun of me for that. We reached Delhi with back-pain which would not leave us for another week.

That's it!
